Auditor's report

In one sentenceThe document the external auditor issues after examining the financial statements, stating the auditor's opinion on whether they are fairly presented and the basis for that opinion.

Simply put

The auditor's report is the first thing a bank or investor reads: it names the statements examined, the type of opinion, and any important matters the auditor drew attention to.

The opinion is either clean (unmodified) or modified in three forms: qualified, adverse, or a disclaimer of opinion.

Example

A contracting company bidding in a tender that requires audited statements attaches the statements with the auditor's report. If the opinion is qualified, the tendering party will usually ask about the reason for the qualification.
