Barcode
In one sentenceA code of lines or squares printed on an item that carries its number, read by a scanner or phone to enter it in a sale or count without typing.
Simply put
A barcode links the piece in your hand to its record in the system. Instead of searching for the item or typing its name, you scan it and its name, price and balance appear.
It reduces input errors at the cashier, at receiving and at the count, and speeds up work. You can also print an internal barcode for items that do not carry a manufacturer's barcode.
Example
During a count at a grocery store, the employee scans each carton's barcode with a phone and the quantity is recorded directly, instead of writing the names of hundreds of items on paper lists and then entering them a second time.
