Cloud-based system

In one sentenceA system that runs on servers over the internet and that you reach from a browser or phone anywhere, instead of installing and running it on a computer inside the business.

Simply put

In a cloud system your data sits on a remote server managed by a specialist provider, so you open the system from the office, from home or from another branch with just an internet connection.

It saves you buying and maintaining servers and making manual backups, but it needs a stable connection. Ask the provider where the data is stored and how it is backed up.

Example

The owner of a restaurant chain, while traveling, opens the system on his phone to see today's sales in every branch, without calling any accountant or waiting for a report by email.

Don't confuse it with

On-premise systemAn on-premise system is installed on computers and a server inside the business, and you are responsible for running it and backing it up.
