Cycle counting
In one sentenceCounting part of the items each period instead of counting all inventory at once, so every item is counted during the year without stopping work.
Simply put
You split the items across the days or weeks of the year and count a small group each day. Important items (category A) are counted more than once.
The advantage: you discover differences early and find their cause while it is recent, and you do not close the warehouse for days for an annual count.
Worked example
A warehouse with 1,200 items wants to count them all once a year and works about 20 days a month.
Items per month1,200 ÷ 12 = 100 items
Items per working day100 ÷ 20 = 5 items
