Probation period
In one sentenceA period at the start of the contract to test whether the employee suits the job and the job suits the employee. It is stated explicitly in the contract as the Saudi Labor Law allows.
Simply put
In the first weeks you watch the new employee's performance, and the employee also gets to know the workplace. This is the probation period, and it applies only if written in the contract.
An employee on probation is a full employee in the payroll and is paid like everyone else. The maximum probation period, the conditions for extending it and the rules for ending the contract during it are in the Saudi Labor Law and its regulations, so check them for the details.
Example
An auto parts store hired a storekeeper and the contract provided for a probation period. During it the manager assessed his accuracy in receiving and counting before confirming him.
