Tax audit
In one sentenceA review ZATCA carries out of the business's books, documents and returns to verify the tax it declared, either as a desk review or in the field.
Simply put
The examiner may ask for invoices, contracts, the general ledger and bank statements for previous periods, so keep them organized and easy to retrieve.
The result of the audit is an assessment that may match your return or adjust it, followed by your right to object.
Example
An electronics store received a request from ZATCA for purchase invoices for two previous quarters: it extracts them from the system, reconciles them with the two returns, and sends them on time.
Don't confuse it with
External auditorThe external auditor is appointed by the business to give an opinion on its statements, while the examiner is from ZATCA and checks the tax only.
