Tax period
In one sentenceThe period for which a business's sales and purchases are combined in a single VAT return; it is monthly or quarterly depending on the size of the business.
Simply put
ZATCA sets each business's period: large businesses file monthly, and others usually every three months, based on the size of annual supplies.
Filing and payment are due by the end of the month following the end of the period, so if a quarterly period ends on 31 March, the deadline is 30 April.
Example
A restaurant with a quarterly tax period combines its January, February, and March invoices in one return, and files it and pays its VAT by 30 April.
Don't confuse it with
Fiscal yearThe fiscal year is for the financial statements and Zakat; the tax period is for the VAT return only.
