Voluntary disclosure

In one sentenceA business informing ZATCA on its own initiative of an error or shortfall in a previous return before ZATCA discovers it in an audit, together with correcting it and paying the difference.

Simply put

The idea: taking the initiative to correct is better than having the error discovered in an audit, because ZATCA treats those who come forward more lightly on penalties.

It is submitted through ZATCA's portal with a statement of the error, the period, the amount and its supporting documents.

Example

An accountant at a trading business found during the annual close purchase invoices whose VAT had been deducted twice in two different returns: he submits a voluntary disclosure and pays the difference before any audit.

Don't confuse it with

Tax objectionIn a disclosure you are the one correcting your error, and in an objection you ask ZATCA to review its decision.
