Zakat return

In one sentenceAn annual form a business submits to the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) with details of its Zakat base and Zakat, within 120 days of the end of its financial year.

Simply put

The return is built from the year's financial statements: the base is calculated from them, the statements are attached, and then the Zakat due is paid.

Filing the return and paying Zakat on time is a condition for obtaining the Zakat certificate.

Example

A company whose financial year ends on 31 December had its accountant prepare the financial statements and calculate the base, then filed the return and paid the Zakat before 120 days had passed since year end.

Don't confuse it with

VAT returnThe VAT return is periodic and covers sales and purchases, while the Zakat return is annual and covers the base.
