Amount in Arabic words (tafqeet)

Convert any amount into correct Arabic words for checks and invoices.

Preparing the tool…

What does this tool do?

Tafqeet means writing an amount in words instead of figures, as on cheques, invoices and vouchers. You enter the amount in figures, and the tool writes it in Arabic in the usual format: “فقط … لا غير” (“only … and nothing more”).

  • It supports three currencies: the Saudi riyal with halalas, the US dollar with cents, and the Egyptian pound with piasters.
  • It follows the Arabic rules for the counted noun and for masculine and feminine numbers: “خمسون ريالًا” and “خمس وسبعون هللة”.
  • It writes thousands, millions and billions up to 999,999,999,999.99.

The conversion runs inside your browser, and no amount you enter is sent to our servers.

How to use the tafqeet tool

  1. Type the amount in figures in the Amount field. For fractions, use a decimal point: 12750.5.
  2. Choose the Currency: SAR, USD or EGP.
  3. The text appears instantly with every change.
  4. Click Copy text and paste it into the cheque, invoice or document.

Writing rules the tool follows

  • Halalas are rounded to the nearest halala, that is, to two decimal places, and written after the riyals: “… ريالًا سعوديًا وخمسون هللة”.
  • The numbers 1 and 2 after hundreds or thousands are written in the form common on invoices: “ألف وواحد ريال سعودي”.
  • “مائتان”, “ألفان” and “مليونان” are used before the currency name, as on invoices, instead of “مائتا ريال”. When counting in thousands, “مائتا ألف” is written.
  • An amount ending in thousands or millions drops the nunation (tanween) because of the construct form: “أحد عشر ألف ريال سعودي”, while “أحد عشر ألفًا” stays when another number follows.

Worked examples

AmountCurrencyOutput text

Note the difference between the first and second examples: “ألفًا” has nunation because another number follows it (سبعمائة, seven hundred), while “ألف” has none because the currency name follows it directly.

Limits of the tool

  • The largest amount the tool accepts is 999,999,999,999.99, that is, just under one trillion.
  • The amount must be greater than zero. Negative amounts are not converted.
  • Only three currencies are supported: the Saudi riyal, the US dollar and the Egyptian pound.

Tafqeet also appears automatically under the result of the Zakat calculator and the VAT calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is tafqeet?
Tafqeet is writing an amount in words instead of figures, such as “فقط ألف ريال سعودي لا غير” (only one thousand Saudi riyals, nothing more). It is used on cheques, invoices and vouchers to make the amount hard to alter.
How do I write the amount in words on a cheque?
Type the amount in figures in the tool and choose SAR, then copy the resulting text. It starts with the word “فقط” (only) and ends with “لا غير” (nothing more), so that nothing can be added to it.
How are halalas written in tafqeet?
They are written after the riyals, joined with “و” (and), such as “… ريالًا سعوديًا وخمسون هللة لا غير”. The tool rounds the amount to the nearest halala.
Can I convert an amount in US dollars or Egyptian pounds?
Yes. Choose USD and the amount is written in US dollars and cents, or EGP and it is written in Egyptian pounds and piasters.
What is the largest amount the tool can write in words?
999,999,999,999.99, that is, nine hundred ninety-nine billion and anything below it, including halalas.
Do you store the amounts I enter?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser, and no amount is sent to our servers or stored.
