Part-time work
In one sentenceWork with fewer hours than the business's normal full-time schedule, usually paid by the hour or as a percentage of the full-time wage.
Simply put
Part-time work suits students or those who need extra income, and suits the business at peak times without the cost of a full-time employee.
A part-time employee has rights set by the Saudi Labor Law and its regulations, including GOSI depending on the case, so check them for the details, and do not assume such employees have no rights because they work fewer hours.
Worked example
A café hired a part-time employee for 4 hours a day for 20 days a month, at 30 SAR an hour (an assumed figure for illustration).
Hours in the month: 4 × 2080 hours
Pay: 80 × 302,400
Part-time employee's pay for the month2,400 SAR
Formula: Number of hours in the month × hourly wage
Don't confuse it with
Flexible workPart-time work means fewer hours, while flexible work means full hours at flexible times.
