Cash

In one sentenceThe cash in the business's cash boxes and its balances in current bank accounts. It is the most liquid asset and is shown first among current assets.

Simply put

The books usually split cash into accounts: the main cash box, the sub cash boxes, and each bank account on its own. This makes reconciliation easier and reveals any difference quickly.

A large idle cash balance is not always a good sign, and very little cash is a risk to paying obligations. What matters is its balance against near-term liabilities.

Worked example

A pharmacy at the end of the month has 15,000 SAR in its cash box and 185,000 SAR in its current bank account.

Cash in the cash box15,000
Current account balance185,000
Total cash = 15,000 + 185,000200,000 SAR
