Sick leave

In one sentenceLeave the employee is entitled to when ill, with an approved medical report. The employee is paid in full or in part during it, depending on its length, under the Saudi Labor Law.

Simply put

When the employee falls ill and submits a medical report, the absence is not treated as unexcused. The Saudi Labor Law sets periods with full pay, then with part of the pay, then without pay, so check the law and its regulations for the details.

For the accountant: record the type of leave accurately in the employee file, because the salary deduction depends on how long the employee has spent on sick leave during the year.

Example

A pharmacy employee submitted an approved medical report for a week's leave. The accountant recorded it as sick leave, not absence, so nothing was deducted from his salary that month.

Don't confuse it with

AbsenceSick leave is an absence with an excuse documented by a medical report, while pay for unexcused absence is deducted.
