What does the tool read?

You upload purchase or sales invoices in one go, up to 200 files as PDF or images (JPG or PNG), and the tool reads the QR code printed on each e-invoice, one after another, with a “Read X of Y” progress bar. In a PDF file it searches the first 5 pages, and an image is scaled down first. It then decodes the code and shows for each invoice: the seller's name, VAT number, invoice date, total including VAT and VAT amount, in one table that you can download as Excel or PDF.

If a PDF file is password-protected, the tool asks for the password and uses it inside your browser only. A file without a clear code appears in the table as “Couldn't read” with the reason.

What checks are run on each invoice?

  • VAT against the total: the total in the code includes VAT, so the expected VAT is total × 15 ÷ 115 at the standard rate of 15%, with a tolerance of 0.05 SAR for rounding. If it differs, the tool shows the correct VAT. An invoice with exempt or zero-rated lines or discounts may legitimately have different VAT, so review it before judging it.
  • VAT number: it must be 15 digits starting and ending with 3.
  • Date: the invoice date and time in the code are valid.
  • Duplicates: two invoices with the same seller, VAT number, date and total are duplicates, and the table names the other file. The first copy stays in the totals and the other is excluded, so the VAT on one invoice is not deducted twice.
  • Phase 2: if the code contains the signature fields (6 to 9: invoice hash, signature and public key), “Phase 2” is shown for information.

Example: seven invoices

Seven files were uploaded (the “Try an example” button in the tool): the code was read in six and could not be read in one unclear image. An invoice with a total of 575 SAR has VAT of 70 in the code, while the correct VAT is 575 × 15 ÷ 115 = 75.00. Two invoices with the same seller, VAT number, date and total (4,600 SAR with VAT of 600) are duplicates, and one invoice has the VAT number “3000”, which is not 15 digits. So two are clean (one of them with a Phase 2 code) and four have notes.

The total VAT on the six invoices is 150 + 300 + 70 + 600 + 45 + 600 = 1,765, and after excluding the duplicate copy 1,765 − 600 = 1,165 SAR; the total including VAT after the exclusion is 8,970 SAR.

Privacy and the tool's limits

The files don't leave your device: invoices are read inside your browser and are not uploaded to any server or saved on the website.

The tool reads what is in the code as it is, and does not compare it with the printed text of the invoice. With Phase 2 codes it only checks that the signature fields are present, and does not verify the signature cryptographically or confirm that the invoice is registered with ZATCA.

Frequently asked questions

How many invoices can I upload at once?
Up to 200 PDF files or JPG or PNG images. They are read one after another so the browser isn't overloaded, and the progress “Read X of Y” is shown.
Why couldn't some invoices be read?
Because the file has no QR code, the image is unclear or taken from too far, or the code is not an e-invoice code. Photograph the code closer and more clearly, upload the e-invoice file itself, or use the invoice QR reader to scan a single invoice with the camera.
Does the tool verify the Phase 2 signature?
No. It shows “Phase 2” if the code contains the signature fields (6 to 9), but it does not verify the signature cryptographically or confirm that the invoice is registered with ZATCA.
The VAT on an invoice isn't 15/115 of its total. Is it wrong?
Not always. An invoice with exempt or zero-rated lines or discounts may legitimately have different VAT. The tool alerts you so you can review it against the invoice itself.
Are my invoices uploaded to the website?
No. The files are read inside your browser and are not sent to any server.
