Absence

In one sentenceThe employee failing to attend on a working day without approved leave or an acceptable excuse, so that day's pay is deducted and the penalty rules may apply.

Simply put

The attendance record reveals days of absence. If the employee has no acceptable excuse, such as a medical report or approved leave, the pay for the days of absence is deducted from the salary.

Repeated absence may lead to a penalty under the business's work rules, and in cases the law specifies it may even lead to ending the contract. Check the Saudi Labor Law and its regulations for the details.

Worked example

An employee at an auto parts store with a total wage of 7,500 SAR was absent two days without excuse (assuming the wage is divided by 30 days for illustration).

Daily wage: 7,500 ÷ 30250
Days of absence2
Deduction from the salary: 250 × 2500 SAR

Formula: (Monthly wage ÷ 30) × days of absence

Don't confuse it with

Unpaid leavePay is deducted for both, but unpaid leave is approved in advance, so there is no penalty.
