Unpaid leave
In one sentenceLeave in which the employee and the business agree that the employee will be away for a set period without being paid for those days, so they are deducted from the month's salary.
Simply put
The employee asks for leave for a personal matter after the annual balance is used up, for example, and the business agrees that it will be unpaid. The days here are approved in advance, so they are neither absence nor a violation.
For the accountant: deduct the pay for the days from the payroll at the daily wage, and check the Saudi Labor Law and its regulations for the effect of long unpaid leave on other entitlements.
Worked example
A factory employee with a total wage of 9,000 SAR took 3 days of unpaid leave (assuming the wage is divided by 30 days for illustration).
Daily wage: 9,000 ÷ 30300
Number of days3
Deduction from the month's salary: 300 × 3900 SAR
Formula: (Monthly wage ÷ 30) × number of unpaid leave days
Don't confuse it with
AbsenceUnpaid leave is approved in advance, while absence is without permission and may lead to a penalty on top of the deduction.
